Let’s talk about prevalent designs. We often refer to the light palette design that is very popular and in fact has become the design trend of 2019 as Scandinavian design. We also refer to it as Modern. They are actually similar but are not quite the same. The trick to determining the design uniqueness of these two kinds of trend is in the color palette.
Scandinavian design has a lighter hue and explores lightness in a room. When you are in a Scandinavian designed building or room, you feel lighter which means the colors of the room are white and all other light colors. The furniture also has lighter colors and the design of the entire ensemble illuminates brightness and radiance. This design capitalizes on sunlight.
Modern design specifically mid-century, on the other hand, tends to have darker hues, low light with accented luminescences. The design principle of modern design is a flowing and open concept which means functionality and honesty in spaces. It tends to be softer but has more contrasting colors as compared to that of the Scandinavian design.
Both design trends are prevalent in current design styles in the Philippines especially in the design of residences and condominiums.
