Rainwater Catchment System: Why it’s a good idea to have it

Water interruptions can leave us frustrated and may burden our days with more tasks and more annoyances. But one of the solutions is actually the simplest: installing Rainwater Catchment System in our households.

Rainwater Catchment System or Rainwater Harvesting is a practice of collecting and storing rainwater to be used for irrigation, laundry, and flushing. In some instances, additional treatment methods are also available when collected water is used for drinking.

Installing a rainwater catchment or rainwater harvesting system in your home has its benefits:

It conserves water and helps reduce water utility bills.
It reduces the risks of flooding as it prevents overcapacity in our storm drainage systems.
It provides an extra supply of water during drought or other water restrictions.
It is inexpensive and,
It provides non-chlorinated water for plants and gardens which may be healthier than using chlorinated water directly from our taps.

Additionally, there is a wide array of models in rainwater catchment. These models range from small tanks to large-scale models that collect up to millions of gallons of water. The most commonly used model, however, is the rooftop water catchment. In this model, rainwater from the roof is channeled through gutters and downspouts that fill rainwater collection tanks. This type of system commonly supplies water for garden and lawn irrigation. However, more complex systems of the same model can cater to the needs inside a home and may need a specific set of professionals to help you.

Installing Rainwater Catchment Systems is a freeing and powerful choice. It gives us freedom from the hassles of both scheduled and unexpected water interruptions. It also gives us freedom from unnecessary and excessive monetary figures in our monthly water utility bills. We can use these savings for other wants and needs. Moreover, it is powerful as it conserves water and contributes in disaster risk reduction.

Imagine if all of our households had one and imagine the countless casualties and properties we could have saved during the previous storms. Coupled with well-designed disaster resilient infrastructure, a simple rainwater catchment system installed creates a rippling effect towards a brighter future not just for us but for the generations to come.
