COMPARING ROOFING BRANDS IN THE PHILIPPINES

Many of us think about roofing very little or not at all. But for architects and design professionals, the material chosen to protect our homes from the elements can be a significant consideration. We wanted to find out what successful professionals are selecting as their go-to roofing solutions – so we did just that! After contacting several architects across multiple practices – government, private and semi-government, we got some great answers – and no two were alike! Read on to learn which roofing brands in the Philippines these experts choose when building attractive, functional, and safe roofs in any environment.

According to United of the Philippines North Davao President for 2022-2023, Architect Oliver Abatol, for Government Projects, Long span Roofing is typically used. A roof is considered a long span if it exceeds a span of 12 meters.

These roofs offer flexible, column-free interior spaces and can lower construction costs and times.

Long-span roofs are constructed with various materials, including steel, aluminium alloy, timber, reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete. Among these materials, steel is often favoured for its strength and resistance to spreading fire across its surface. The most common long-span used in Davao Region is Colorsteel.

According to the Past President of the United of the Philippines Davao Chapter for 2015-2016, Architect Ace Clapis, when he has a budget, he prefers the PVC Roofing Metplast from Technitrade.

It is plastic, does not absorb too much heat, and is a bit soundproof, unlike Galvanized iron when it rains.

Additionally, it has translated colours for the natural light effect that goes with the same profile as the roof.

Finally, Architect Gloryrose Dy Metilla, Past President of  United of the Philippines North Davao President for 2015-2016 and Filipina Architect Editor in Chief, said she prefers the Onduline Roofing because

it does not absorb heat and is soundproof. But this is only good when the design of the roof is steep enough so no water is collected on top.

While ultimately, the choice of roof materials comes down to personal preference and budgeting, all three architects agree that there are different kinds of roofs brands depending on the scenario. Long-span roofing is preferred for Government Projects and can help lower construction costs and times – making Colorsteel a practical option. Out of the various materials, steel is often favoured for its strength and resistance to fires. That said, PVC Roofing Metplast from Technitrade offers multiple benefits, including having colours translated for natural light effects and Onduline Roofing, which does not absorb heat and has soundproof effects. All in all, whichever materials are chosen, it is important to remember details like material strength, fire prevention methods, and the budget to be considered when selecting roofing materials.
