The traditional home of the Mansaka tribe is called the Uyaanan. It is a single room structure usually built on top of a tree and is usually elevated 3 meters from the ground.
The structure is support by timber post while the entire house is usually made of Bamboo.
The ladder is made of a single log with carved footholds that serve as the ladder to the main living spaces. The houses open to the east, a tradition that determines the positioning of their structures depending on the location of sunrise. It has four main spaces: the pilapil or the resting place, the tambo or sleeping area, the pangabwanan or the kitchen, and the talaga or the place for storage and kitchen utensils.
These houses of the Mansaka tribe are usually clustered based on kinship, usually around 3 families. The site selection is done by the Mansaka elders and the Baylan, the village’s spiritual guide.
